The Parks and Rec basketball program uses high school students -- in addition to parent volunteers -- as coaches as well as occasionally for referees.
Coaches for Grades 3-8 will oversee one practice and one game per week. Practice schedule by grade is listed below. Games are Saturday afternoons for all divisions. Coaching is a volunteer position.
Referees will officiate the Grade 2 games on the first two Saturdays in March and will receive compensation.
The Grade 3-8 leagues start practice in mid-November and games the first weekend of December, and the season ends just before February vacation.
We also have openings for volunteer coaches to help at our Grade K-2 clinics, which are Fridays (5:30 p.m.), Saturdays (9 a.m.-1 p.m.) and Sundays (10 a.m.-2 p.m.).
If you are interested in serving as a coach and/or referee this season, fill out the application on this page. Note that the number of openings varies from year to year depending on player registration and parent volunteers, so not everyone is guaranteed a position. Nor can we guarantee which division you will coach should you be selected.
